The Ram 1500 excels at balancing comfort and capability, and to maintain its leadership position in its class, this full-size pickup truck will receive several enhancements for 2025. It has two six-cylinder engine options: an inline-six twin-turbo and a basic V-6. The latter has 540 horsepower and takes the place of the outdated Hemi V-8. The half-ton Ram performs best when equipped for luxury, while a Rebel variant offers more off-road capability. While maintaining workhorse abilities, high-end trims like the Limited and the new Tungsten provide the greatest sense of trucks that belong in a class above. Although the Ram's maximum capacity isn't as great as that of competitors like the Ford F-150 and Chevy Silverado, most purchasers won't be dissatisfied.
Ram doesn't significantly alter the Ram for 2024, but that's probably because the 2025 model gets a lot of upgrades. In case you missed it, Ram discontinued the 1500's diesel powerplant option last year. It had been available on early 2023 trucks.
The 2024 Ram 1500 ranges in price from $41,415 to $67,805, depending on the trim and extras.
The Ram 1500 feels more like a crossover SUV than a working truck thanks to its coil-spring rear suspension. This is particularly apparent when the bed is empty, since most rival trucks' rear axles jiggle and bounce over uneven surfaces. Through turns and twists, the Ram feels safe and assured thanks to its suspension and agile handling.
For the 2024 Ram 1500 engine range, Ram eliminated the diesel V6 option, leaving just three options: a 3.6-liter V6 with 305 horsepower, a 5.7-liter V8 with 395 horsepower, and a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 with 702 horsepower. Each is coupled to an eight-speed automatic gearbox that shifts smoothly. The Ram 1500's maximum towing capacity is 12,750 pounds when equipped with the Max Tow package and the rear-wheel-drive Quad Cab long-bed variant with a 5.7-liter V8 engine. The Ram 1500 can tow 2,300 pounds at its maximum when equipped with the Quad Cab, long box, and rear-wheel drive Tradesman equipment level. That makes sense given the model's intended use as a labor truck.
The 2024 Ram 1500 with the standard V6 engine is estimated to score up to 20 mpg in the city, 25 mpg on the interstate, and 22 mpg overall—class-leading results. The fuel efficiency of the Ram decreases to 19/24 city/highway when four-wheel drive is added. At 18/23 city/highway, models with the midrange V8 engine also manage a respectable fuel economy. The 48-volt mild-hybrid boost helps the V6 and V8 engines by sharing part of the load during low-speed acceleration. Not unexpectedly, the 702-horsepower TRX gets 10/14 city/highway (12 mpg combined) and is hilariously inefficient.
The bar for full-size truck cabin quality and design is still the 2024 Ram 1500. While higher models reflect their exorbitant pricing with many grades of improved leather, sophisticated detailing, better sound insulation, extended infotainment, and driver-assistance tech, even the lowest trims provide unexpectedly good touches. A suede-wrapped headliner, more typical of high-end sedans and sports trucks, is also an option. If you choose three-across seating in front, there is room for up to six people (a smaller center seat flanked by two bucket seats). There's a decent vision from the outside, a commanding driving position, and enough space in both seats, with the Ram offering more legroom in the rear than its rivals.
Most trims provide bed lengths of 5 feet 7 inches or 6 feet 4 inches. Only the short beds are included with the off-road Rebel and TRX models. For further usefulness, you may add features like a spray-in bed liner, in-bed lights, adjustable tie-downs, a bed extension, and the RamBox lockable in-bed trunk.
For a time now, Ram trucks have had some of the greatest infotainment systems and connection options available in their class. This is still the case with the newest trucks, which come with a 12.0-inch optional touchscreen (available on all bars the lowest Ram model) or a snappy 8.4-inch touchscreen as standard. Unfortunately, throughout our 40,000-mile long-term test, we encountered several faults with the massive display. Both systems include a bigger touchscreen with a few unnecessary knobs and buttons, and they are compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Numerous driver-assistance technologies, including automatic emergency braking and lane-keeping assistance, are available for the Ram 1500. Visit the websites of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for further details on the Ram 1500's crash test results. Important safety characteristics consist of:
Only the Nissan Titan's longer warranty surpasses Ram's competitive limited and powertrain warranties. Similarly, free planned maintenance is available for the Toyota Tundra, half-ton Sierra, and Silverado.
Ram 1500's motto is "Go anywhere, do anything, haul everything."
