Ram 1500 TRX

Beyond the top of a muddy ORV path, beastly snarl growls. However, this is no typical wild animal or hog—rather, it's the ferociously fast 702-hp Ram 1500 TRX. A powerful 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine under the hood consumes petrol like it's drinking from a garden hose. Gear changes are handled by an eight-speed automatic gearbox, and the truck's four-wheel drive system allows it to tow this massive off-road beast across even the most hazardous terrain. The 700-hp Ford F-150 Raptor R and the fastest truck we've ever tested, the all-electric Rivian R1T, are the only predators the TRX has to be aware of. Unfortunately, Ram declared that 2024 will be the last year for the powerful TRX.

What Is 2024 Bringing?

For 2024, there is bad news for fans of the Ram 1500 TRX: parent firm Stellantis has declared that it will be the last year for the truck with 702 horsepower. Only 4,000 Final Editions will be produced, making it an exclusive option for the 2024 model year. There are three special colors for this TRX Final Edition: Harvest Sunrise, Night Edge Blue, and Delmonico Red. Exclusive features include the bedside graphic and beadlock-capable wheels made of Satin Titanium. Ram embellishes the interior with "TRX" embroidery and Patina contrast stitching, and the gauge cluster displays the words "Final Edition". The Final Edition is made even more remarkable by additional interior details including unique faux-suede door panels and a Satin Titanium finish.

Performance, Engine, and Transmission

A supercharged Hemi 6.2-liter V-8 engine is hidden behind the TRX's sculpted hood and between its protruding fenders. Known by its more common name, the Hellcat engine, this particular model generates 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission distributes this power to all four wheels. The TRX reached 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds during our testing, and it finished the quarter-mile at 110 mph in 12.3 seconds. It is therefore the fastest pickup we have ever tested. On paved highways, the Hellcat-powered Ram is surprisingly smooth and simple to manage, despite its massive size and heavy curb weight. Nevertheless, the exhaust pipes of its supercharged V-8 are poised to produce thrilling noises. Naturally, the TRX is designed to be used for play in the sand, rocks, and dirt. It has a stronger suspension system with more than 13 inches of travel, as well as a strengthened steel frame. It has 11.8 inches of ground clearance thanks to a large set of 35-inch all-terrain tires placed on 18-inch wheels. Ram claims that up to 32 inches of water can be crossed by the half-ton Hellcat. Each TRX is equipped with massive 15.0-inch front brakes, Bilstein remote-reservoir dampers, an electronic-locking rear differential, and enough underbody protection to cover a Brink's truck. What's more?

Capacity for Payload and Towing

The TRX can haul a substantial load, even if it can't tow as much as certain Ram versions, which are now rated at up to 12,750 pounds. It can pull up to 8100 pounds, which is 100 pounds less than the F-150 Raptor, and trucks up to 1310 pounds of payload, which is 80 pounds less than the Ford.

Truck, Comfort, and Interior

With its newest half-ton pickups, Ram has completely rewritten the rules when it comes to truck interiors. These pickups provide exquisite materials that appear expensive and provide excellent noise absorption. The TRX is the only truck available with the short truck bed as a crew cab; this degree of elegance and refinement appears to be truck over. The inside of the basic model borrows features from the Ram 1500 Rebel, including cloth upholstery. But with the optional TR1 and TR2 packages, the cabin feels and looks good with leather-covered surfaces and embellishments made of a combination of truckbon fiber and microsuede. Two large paddle shifters are positioned on the flat-bottom steering wheel of the TRX, while a floor shifter is situated on the center console.

Connectivity and Entertainment

The infotainment system on every TRX has a 12.0-inch touchscreen that is vertically positioned in the center of the dashboard. The device features built-in navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, Apple truckPlay, and Android Auto. The display has physical knobs and buttons on the bezel encircling the screen for more user-friendly controls, and it can be separated into different menus to allow numerous apps to be open at once. Sadly, many blackouts occurred on the huge, 12.0-inch center touchscreen of our long-term TRX—something we haven't encountered with the company's Uconnect systems, which have smaller displays. Additionally, the truck may be equipped with a powerful 19-speaker, 900-watt Harman/Kardon sound system.

Features for Safety and Driver Assistance

Ram equips its most powerful truck with an abundance of accessible driver-assistance technologies, one of which makes connecting a trailer simpler. Visit the websites of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for further details on the TRX's crash test results. Important safety characteristics consist of:

  • Lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assistance are available.
  • Blind-spot monitoring capabilities available
  • Adaptive cruise control is available.

Coverage for Maintenance and Warranty

All competitors' limited and powertrain warranties are comparable to Ram's, except for Nissan, which offers lengthier coverage of five years or 100,000 miles. However, unlike Chevy, GMC, and Toyota, Ram does not provide free maintenance.

  • A limited warranty is valid for 36 months or 36,000 miles.
  • A powertrain warranty is valid for 60,000 miles or five years.
  • No complimentary scheduled maintenance

FAQs

With a Final Edition model for the 2024 model year, Ram will retire the top-of-the-line, 702-horsepower Ram 1500 TRX. Strictly referred to as the 2024 Ram 1500 TRX 6.2L Supercharged V8 – Final Edition (wow), just 4,000 units of this extremely rare car will be made globally.
